Location

Troia peninsula, about 47 km south of Lisbon, on the Atlantic coast. The Troia peninsula lies opposite the city of Setubal, next to the Sado River.



How to get there

The closest airport is  Lisbon (LIS). From Lisbon toy can take a bus, a train, or simply hire a car and drive to Setúbal.

Once you get to Setúbal, you can get a ferry over to the Troia peninsula. There are 2 ferries. One is a catamaran for foot passengers only, which goes to the tip of the peninsula closest to Setúbal. The other is a car ferry which goes to a dock about 4 km south of the tip of the peninsula.

Race distances

There are 4 race distances at Troia:

  • A Kids distance event
  • An Experience (Intro)
  • a Sprint distance of  16.8 km, 
  • and a Standard distance of  25 km.


The 16.8 km race involves 4 swim legs and 5 running sections. The total swim distance is 1.85 km and total run distance is 7.7 km.

The 25 km event involves 2.7 km of swimming over 6 legs, and 14.5 km of running over 7 legs.

You can enter any of the distances as a solo competitor or as a team of two.

Energy stations

Around each course there are several water stops, offering hydration (water and electrolyte drinks), and fruit.

Cut-off times

The Sprint race has a cut-off time of 4 hours from the starting gun, while the longer Standard race has a cut-off of 6 hours from the starting gun.

Weather

Held around mid-October, the water is still warming up from winter. The weather is usually mild but a little unpredictable. The water temperature is around 20 degrees C, according to the race organiser. Most athletes do NOT wear wetsuits for the 2 shorter events, but the organisers recommend a wetsuit for the Long distance race..

There is always a chance of cold or wet weather, so you should take suitable clothing for every eventuality!
