Full event info Mudskipper Indiana, at Deam Lake. This is the first event on the Mudskipper calendar to be held outside of Canada, usually in mid-May.

Deam Lake State Recreation Area is a 500-acre park in Clark county, Indiana USA. The lake is a man-made lake with a surface area of 194 acres.

Location

Deam Lake State Recreation Area (SRA), Borden, Indiana.


How to get there

First you have to get to south Indiana.

The nearest major airport is Louiseville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF). Louiseville is actually in Kentucky, but it is the closest major airport to Deam Lake.

The fastest way to get from the airport to Deam Lake is by taxi, which takes about 40 minutes and costs around USD 70.

You can also take a bus, but there is NO direct route. First, you have to take the 02 line bus to S 5th @ W Jefferson, walk to W Jefferson @ S 5th, take the line 71 bus to Alumni @ Lakeview, then take the taxi to Deam Lake State Recreation Area.


Where to stay

There is no specific accommodation recommended by Mudskipper, but there is plenty of choice in the area at AirBnB, Booking.com and other accommodation websites.

Deam Lake SRA itself has 19 rent-a-camp cabins available from April -to October. Each cabin has a front porch, outside electric outlet, and front porch light. Inside, there are two small rooms each with a ceiling fan with light, a heating/cooling unit, and electrical outlets. The front room has a small table with bench seats, corner shelf, chair, rocking chair, and a loft. The back room offers a bunk bed (single) and a double bed. No bed linen or mattress is provided. An air mattress is recommended! You can reserve cabins online at Camp.IN.gov.  

No pets, smoking or cooking is permitted inside the cabins.

Race distances

There are 2 race distances:

  • a medium distance of 10 miles, 
  • and a longer 'Classic' distance of 17.9 miles.

The 10 mile event includes 3,900 yards of swimming over 3 legs, and 7.8 miles of running, over 4 legs.

The 17.9 mile event involves 5,200 yards of swimming over 4 legs, and 14.4 miles of running over 5 legs.


Race routes

Both distances have the same Start and Finish areas.  There are restrooms, changing rooms and showers.

Energy stations

There are no energy stations around the course, but there is food available at the finish area.


Cut-off times

  • There are NO cut-off times at this event. (I guess it's when the sun sets!).

Weather

Held in mid-May, the weather is mild but a little unpredictable. The water temperature is around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, according to race organiser Canaqua. Wetsuits are not compulsory.

There is always a chance of cold or wet weather, so you should take suitable clothing for every eventuality!
