Full event info Mudskipper Canadian Championship, Parry Sound, held around mid-August each year. Parry Sound is approximately 225 km (140 miles) north of Toronto, on the eastern side of Georgian Bay.

The Canadian Championship swimrun event is a 27 km race (often described as a rounded-up 30 km), made up of two rounds of a 13.5 km course.

The area boasts many beautiful beaches, parks and trails. It is ideally situated just off highway 400, in the Southernmost part of Northern Ontario.

This charming waterfront town is within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and home to 6,500 residents in the town itself, and over 14,000 in the immediate area.

How to get there

First you have to get to Ontario. If you are coming from overseas, the nearest international airport is Toronto International Airport, (Pearson).

Billy Bishop Toronto is the regional airport.

John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport in Hamilton is a base for low-cost carriers that fly domestic and transatlantic routes.

You can drive to Parry Sound by car from Toronto, with easy access from Highway 400.

Bus service is provided by Ontario Northland, and rail service by VIA Rail.

You can also fly into Parry Sound Municipal Airport via small commercial flights or charter flights with Georgian Bay Airways.

RACE HOTEL

There is no other specific accommodation recommended by Mudskipper, but there is plenty of other choice in the area at AirBnB, Booking.com and other accommodation websites.

Race distances

There are 2 race distances:

a Sprint distance of 13.5 km, starting at 8:45am
and the Canadian Championship distance of 27 km, which is 2 laps of the 13.5 km course, starting at 8:30am. This is also a qualifier for the Individual World Championship Final in Grado, Italy.

The 13.5 km event includes 3.7 km of swimming over 3 legs, and 9.9 km of running, also over 3 legs.

The 27 km event is simply another lap of the 13.5 km course, so just double all the figures!

Cut-off times

The 27 km Canadian Championship start is at 8:30am
The 13.5 km race starts at 8:45am

The cut-off is 12:30 midday.

Weather

Held in mid-August, the weather is mild but a little unpredictable. The water temperature is around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, according to race organiser Canaqua. Wetsuits are not compulsory, but proper trail shoes are strongly recommended for this race.

There is always a chance of cold or wet weather, so you should take suitable clothing for every eventuality!
